GMB SECURE PROTECTIVE AWARD FOR GMB MEMBERS WHO WORKED AT DUNNETTS (BIRMINGHAM) LTD

The GMB have been successful
in achieving a protective award for 42 GMB members who worked at Dunnetts (Birmingham) Ltd. The Birmingham Employment
Tribunal has ordered Dunnetts (Birmingham) Ltd to pay compensation equal to 90 days pay. The company went into administration
in January 2009 without any warning and the claim was lodged due to a failure to consult with the recognised union, GMB.

Khalik, GMB fulltime Official said “I am pleased that we have been able to secure a further 90 days pay for our members.
Even though it is in no way compensation for the loss of their jobs, I’m sure our members will appreciate this judgement in the current economic
climate. Thompsons Solicitors, who have been representing our members, are currently in communication with
the
administrators regarding this matter.”
