EVESHAM
TECHNOLGY SACK AROUND 150 WORKERS
Around 150 workers have been sacked from Evesham Technology on Friday 3rd August without
any warnings.
The employees were split into two groups, one led up stairs where they were told they
still had a job, and the others were told to go home. The employees that were working off site on Friday were told by a text
message.
GMB will be supporting the members and are holding a demonstration
outside the company tomorrow (Wednesday 8th August 07). GMB is urging all staff still employed by Evesham Technology
to join GMB incase the same thing happens to them.
Evesham Technology is a major UK based
computer manufacturer, and supplies the latest HD Ready LCD TV’s, satellite Navigations and PC’s.
Martin Hird, Senior Organiser for
the GMB, commented on the scandalous decision
by Evesham Technology to sack 150 of its employees without any warning.
Evesham Technology are a nationwide company supplying
PCs and media technology to both the home and business community. On Friday 3 August 2007 150 employees were sacked without warning.
It is alleged that Geemore Technology, which is
registered at the same address as Evesham Technology in Vale
Park, Worcestershire, was set up as a holding
company on the 20th July and further alleged that assets were subsequently transferred from one company to the
other before sacking its workers without warning or consultation. Martin
Hird stated it would appear from the information we have that there is the smell of private equity involvement. He also stated that the GMB has requested an immediate meeting with Richard Austin, Chairman of the Company,
to discuss this situation. The GMB will continue to support its members and their
families who have been affected by this decision.
