LOCAL MP BACKS WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY
The workers Memorial Day will be held on the 4th May 07 at St. Johns Baptist Church, Halesowen where all
workers and trade unionists come together.
It is that time of year again to remember all the people killed in incidents at work
by occupational illnesses like lung, heart and asbestos related diseases.
In Britain last year, 212 workers were killed in their workplaces and 12 of these
were killed in the West Midlands. The causes can be varied, most of all come down to negligence.
Officer and Staff from Regional Office will be attending the service along with Sylvia
Heal MP and Martin Bevan Regional Health & Safety Officer at St John’s Baptist Church in Halesowen, where a wreath will be laid at the dedicated memorial tree.
Joe Morgan, GMB Regional Secretary said “Most accidents and industrial
diseases are preventable and companies should be held accountable for deaths which happen at work. We are continuing to fight
to make workplaces safer so we can see these statistics drastically reduced.”
