GMB Birmingham & West Midlands Region

Tewkesbury Office

The GMB has had an office located in Cheltenham for over 40 years, and has now recently moved into their new premises at Tewkesbury providing a service to our members across a large geographical area covering some 650 square miles, which includes:

Gloucestershire
Worcestershire
Warwickshire
Herefordshire
Wiltshire
Oxfordshire

The office currently provides a service for over 10,000 members organised across all industrial sections with a large membership within the Public Services sector, where a significant increase has recently been seen as a result of a major campaign using the Single Status negotiations.

The Tewkesbury area office can also proudly boast that the GMB is the first Trade Union to gain recognition within GCHQ as a result of an agreement with Vosper Man-Tec. The Tewkesbury office also has regional responsibilities within the Security industry.

The Tewkesbury office provides meeting facilities, enabling the team to run workshops and courses to bring the GMB closer to the membership in the area. The office also services membership within 20 Branches of the GMB and has a full-time Branch Secretary, Sandra Tanner, based in Banbury.

Meet the Officers

Bert Hill
Bert is the Senior Organiser for the Central area. He has overall responsibility for Manufacturing industries within the Birmingham & West Midlands area. Bert also has national responsibilities for the car industry and TRW (formerly Lucas). He began his working life as an apprentice with GKN after which he moved to Christian Salvesan Distribution where he was quickly elected to Convenor. During the 14 years in that post he was an elected member of the National Food & Leisure Committee, Regional Council, and a Regional Committee member for 6 years and Branch President of the Birmingham & Central Branch for 8 years. Bert has a certificate in Trade Union and Industrial Studies at diploma level and has completed the CMI Chartered Managers Institute Diploma at Level 4 Management. bert.hill@gmb.org.uk

Wayne Powell

Wayne Powell
Wayne has been a member of the GMB for over 25 years and as an Organiser his sheet of responsibilities covers all sections of the GMB. He worked for SCA Packaging for 18 years where he was a GMB Shop Steward and Senior Shop Steward for 10 years. Wayne is a member of the Tewkesbury Area Team

Kevin Clark

Kevin is based at the Tewkesbury Office, and his portfolios of company’s that come under his responsibility include Utilities, Secure Parcel Delivery, Manufacturing and the Care Industry. In the many years that Kevin has been an Officer in the GMB he has worked in most sectors of industry. Kevin first became a rep in 1992 when he worked as a Vehicle Technician in the MOD

John Willman
John is an Organiser and is responsible for the representation of Senior Managers in Local Government and members in the care & water industry. He has previously been a Director of Personnel, a Health Service Senior Manager, a Director of Quality Assurance in Saudi Arabia and a former FTO of Royal College of Nursing.
