The Regional Office is based in Halesowen, in the heart of the Birmingham and West Midlands Region. The area covered by this office is the smallest geographically of the four areas in this Region.
However, despite its size it is responsible for over 50% of the Region’s membership, which currently stands at over 52,000. The Regional Office therefore has the largest team of Officers, who are:

The Regional Office also has the largest number of staff, to look after functions such as Education, Health and Safety, Membership and Legal.
Within the Central Area we currently cover all 8 Sections of our GMB Trade Union and peculiar to the GMB nationally have a very high percentage of Engineering membership next to the ever increasing Public Services membership.
Officers in this area also hold national responsibilities in Energy and Utilities and the Care Sector and there are a number of national Companies who have their Headquarters based in this area.
We have responsibility for our members within Public Services and five of the biggest Authorities fall within this area:

Meet the Officers
| Martin Bevan Martin has been a trade unionist for over 30 years and been involved with the GMB for around 20 years. He is a former HGV driver, export manager, TUC tutor and University lecturer. Martin studied for a PhD at the University of the West of England and became a director for the Council for Administration in 1998 to 2000. He is presently a member of the Engineering Industry Noise Take Group (EINTG) and studying for an MSc in Health and Safety Management at the Scarman Centre. Martin is the Regional Education and Health & Safety Officer and is also responsible for Equal Rights. martin.bevan@gmb.org.uk |

| Ann Rixom Ann is an Organiser and has been a GMB member since she was 21. She was a Representative and Convenor for 6 years and a Branch Secretary before becoming a full-time Officer. She looks after members working in the Care Sector and within hotels, as well as members in Engineering, Processing, Food & Leisure, Commercial Services and CFTA. ann.rixom@gmb.org.uk |

| Brian McGuinness Brian is on the Executive Committee of the World Swimming Coaches Association (Europe) and is National Organiser for the BSCTA (British Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association). He was previously a Swimming Development Officer in Oldham, as well as President of the BSCTA. | Chris Humphreys Chris has been involved with trade unions since he was 23. He previously worked in the Chemicals industry, where he was a Convenor for 10 years. | John Willman John is an Organiser and is responsible for the representation of Senior Managers in Local Government and members in the Electricity and Water Industry. | Rob Kelsall Rob is an Organiser and has been involved in the trade union movement since the start of his working life. He became a Shop Steward at the age of 17 when he started working in the railways industry and was a Rep for ASLEF for 11 years.
