Branches are the basic units of the union's organisation. Branches consist of all members in a given area or workplace.

Each GMB Branch has its own Officers: Branch Secretary, Branch President, Auditor, Branch Youth Officer, and Branch Equality Officer. All Branch officials are elected every two years and some Branches are large enough to warrant full-time staff whose job is to run the administration.

All GMB members are allocated to a Branch, whether workplace-based or near to their home. Branches hold regular meetings, enabling members to get together to discuss problems at work and providing open forums for advice.
