| Joe Morgan, Regional Secretary |
The GMB is Britain’s General Union and has around
53,558 members across the Birmingham and West Midlands region, who work in all occupations across both the public and private
sectors.
The particular strength of a general union is that it gives any workers in any industry, however large
or small, the combined support of all its members in all industries and services.
Union members enjoy better terms
and conditions of employment than non-union members and can feel safe in the knowledge that they’re part of a national
network of over 604,500 members.
GMB’s purpose is to improve the quality of life of our members and their
families. We actively encourage and support members wishing to pursue further education or develop their skills. The GMB regional office is based in Halesowen, with area offices in Tewkesbury Office, Tamworth and Stafford, ensuring all members receive local representation across the West Midlands.
Hopefully
this site will provide you with all of the information you need. If you do have any queries or wish to join the GMB, please contact us on 0121 550 4888

Sections
The GMB has three
sections for members working in particular industries or occupations, Public Services, Commercial
Services and Manufacturing. Sections are serviced by teams of full time Organisers at
regional and national level, supported by Researchers at National Office in London. We
provide the following functions on a regional level, to focus on offering a service tailored to the needs of our
members in the Birmingham & West Midlands Region.
Advice The
GMB provides advice and guidance on employment law, health and safety at work, pensions, Human Resource Management, terms
and conditions. GMB members are supported by shop stewards, local representatives
and full-time officials who negotiate, represent, listen and advise on our members' behalf.
Education and
Health & Safety
The Education and Health & Safety department is based at our Regional Office in Halesowen. The department is
the support engine for over 3,000 shop stewards, safety representatives and learner representatives, who assist and represent
thousands of our members throughout the Birmingham and West Midland Region. Further information is available on Health & Safety here and on Education here.
