GMB members in the contracting sector play an important role in delivering services to the Public and the GMB ensures all members are effectively organised and represented in the sector.

Recently a national meeting of GMB workplace organisers from the Contracting Sector took place to discuss how best they could organise members and workplace organisers in their sector.

We are pleased to announce that in January 2010 the GMB set up a National Contractors Forum and this exciting initiative will lead to regional discussions and activity on how best the sector can be organised and represented.

Many of you may have been TUPE’d to a contractor or may have joined your employment once the contract had been transferred. Either way the GMB welcomes you to participate in building GMB membership and organisation in your workplace.

TUPE is a European law which exists to protect workers when their jobs are transferred to another employer. Strong GMB organisation in your workplace will support you and your colleagues in making sure your terms and conditions will not be cut as a result of your job being sold to another employer.
