GMB AND
UNITE THE UNION GAIN RECOGNITION AT KOITO UK DROITWICH.
Workers at Koito UK Droitwich have voted in favour of trade
union recognition with GMB and Unite the Union in a ballot conducted independently by ACAS.
Recognition will give the workers at Koito the right to have their
terms and conditions negotiated collectively by the trade unions and to represent workers at the Droitwich site which employs
over 400 workers.
MARTIN HIRD
GMB SENIOR ORGANISER AND SIMON POWELL REGIONAL INDUSTRIAL
OFFICER WITH UNITE COMMENTED, “Although the path to recognition has taken some time both unions are extremely pleased with the outcome of the ballot
and it is a testament to the way GMB and Unite have worked together to achieve this result on behalf of their members. Finally
GMB and Unite are looking forward to working with Koito to the mutual benefit of both their members and the company.”
JOHN WARKE, KOITO HUMAN RESOURCES GENERAL MANAGER COMMENTED,
“Commercial business
has proved difficult for many organisations over the last two years and navigating the continued uncertainty going forward
will be a key focus point for all types of industry.” “The decision to enter into a voluntary arrangement to ballot our colleagues
with both unions followed a positive period of lengthy dialogue to include presentations from both unions with site visits
to other unionised organisations to include internal research about the role of unions into the future.” “Koito
are equally positive about the ballot result and anticipate that the intended working arrangements and partnership with all
parties will prove to be a model template for other highly successful organisations to adopt and follow.”
