The GMB Promo
Union was formed as a result of a lot of Promo Staff being treated unfairly. Staff either receives payments late or
not at all for work that they have carried out, which is often extremely hard work, poor contracts, poor health & safety
etc
Our aim is to
draw up a charter for the industry, which we hope to launch in January 2007. We are hoping that agencies will sign up
to our charter and I am confident that the more reputable agencies will also. As a result, hopefully, the more unscrupulous
agencies can be driven out of business and Promo Staff finally receive the fair and equitable treatment that they deserve.
OBJECTIVES
· To promote a good working relationship between Agencies
and employees
· To promote fair working practices and
mutual respect between Agencies and employees
· For all Agencies to establish a fair set
of Terms & conditions, Discrimination Policies, Grievance Procedures, Equal Opportunities and Benefits and Allowances
in accordance with UK
law
AGENCY COMMITMENT
- To provide staff with a fair set of Terms & Conditions before any
role of employment (this will be verified by the GMB Promo Union)
- In situations where last minute employment occurs these should, where
possible, be offered by e-mail/fax or inclusion on a website
- No compulsory registration/joining or upkeep fees to be charged to
staff unless in accordance with UK law
- Adequate training should be provided for any jobs where specialist
skills are required or where health & safety is a concern and should be compliant with Health & Safety regulations
(i.e. lifting, rigging/stand building)
- To offer a fair cancellation policy to all staff in the event that
work is cancelled within a timeframe, which makes it difficult to schedule alternative bookings
v Scale of remuneration should be relative to notice period given
- Implementation of a fair payment timescale (i.e. payment to be issued
no later than the end of the following month in which work has been carried out) providing staff have complied with the payment
terms of the agency.
v This should include the rectification of any payment errors to be dealt with in a timely fashion.
v Any abnormal expenses agreed (i.e. more than the cost of short travel) should be provided up front or reimbursed soon
after being incurred.
·
Agencies must actively encourage Agency
staff to join the Promo Union
