Aspire Housing Strike

Monday, July 20, 2015

Aspire Housing Strike took place today, closing The Depot in Brick Kiln Lane, over 40 maintenance workers have been on strike at the site since 6am this morning with others withdrawing their labour.

The company Aspire Housing proposals are to dismiss workers and re-engage them on worse terms and conditions. They plan to reduce full sick pay from 6 months to 3, they are also expected to work an additional 2 hours a week on a flexible basis. Cut holiday entitlement for new starters.

These changes will leave the maintenance workers undervalued, as these changes to their terms and conditions will only affect this group of employees, all others will stay are their current contract.

The next planned strike action will take place on Friday 24 July 2015, but GMB are hoping to re-engage with the company so talks can continue.

Mr Adrian Johnson, GMB Representative said: The reason why I am on strike today is Aspire Housing are trying to ruin my terms and conditions, I find it unreasonable that only 103 men and women are being affected in all this in the Aspire group. I just think it’s wrong.
