Union has little alternative but to inform the Academy that we are in dispute and we will be consulting members about potential action says GMB.
GMB, the union for school support staff, will hold a demonstration outside Nuneaton Academy on Monday 12th January over proposals involving redundancies of support staff at the school.
At the start of November 2014, management at Nuneaton Academy announced plans to restructure support staff working at the school. These proposals highlighted that a significant number of staff would be made redundant and other staff would be forced to accept contractual changes.
The details of the protest are as follows:
9am to 9.30am
Monday 12 Jan,
Outside Nuneaton Academy,
Management will be presented with ‘ASBO’ for refusing to meet GMB to discuss this attack on school support staff.
Stuart Richards, GMB Organiser, said “As the trade union representing school support staff, GMB has contacted the school on a number of occasions and have raised serious concerns about the proposals. Despite this, the Academy’s management has so far refused to meet with GMB to discuss this.
GMB has stated that we want to work with the Academy to try and find a mutually acceptable way forward. To help with this, we’ve asked that the school does not continue consulting with our members on the proposals until we’ve had a chance to talk this through. Again, the Academy’s management has ignored us.
Support staff at Nuneaton Academy are incredibly dedicated and have given 100% to support the school through some very difficult times. They deserve to be treated better than this.
Unfortunately, we’ve been left with little alternative and have now informed the Academy that we are in dispute. We will be consulting with our members over the next couple of weeks about potential action."
