HLTA Pilot Assessment Providers announced

The TTA has appointed eleven organisations/consortia to pilot the assessment elements of the training for HLTAs this Autumn (Nov 03 to Feb 04). One of these is working within Walsall.

The full training and assessment programme will be launched in April 2004. LEAs should be involved in selecting candidates to take part in the pilots, whether or not the LEA is the actual provider.

The pilot programme will focus on assessment against the Standards. This will include:

evaluating assessment tasks and processes to determine the extent to which they are fit for purpose and manageable and allow assessment against all the Standards;
evaluating a draft handbook of guidance which sets out the kind of evidence individuals would need to produce to show that they had met the Standards. This handbook will be revised for publication in time for training to begin from April 2004;
developing a system to identify which candidates would only need a short assessment-only route to meeting the HLTA Standards;
identifying how best to record candidates’ achievement against the Standards.
