GMB Proposal for Birmingham
LEA Workforce Remodelling
GMB POSITION STATEMENT
The GMB recognise and applaud the work done by all parties over the last
two years with regard to remodelling of classroom based support staff
in Birmingham.
Whilst we support the proposed career structure, including recognition
of the roles and responsibilities that you currently undertake, we do
have major concerns regarding the following issues:
 |
AN ATTEMPT TO PLACE CLASSROOM
BASED SUPPORT STAFF ON TO TERM-TIME ONLY PAY |
| |
This will result in you being paid for just 46.4
weeks in the year as opposed to the current 52 weeks in the year. |
| |
|
 |
A DILUTION OF YOUR SALARY |
| |
The proposals seek to base your pay upon a full
time working week of 37 hours as opposed to the current 32.5/27.5
hr week. |
| |
|
 |
THE ABOLITION OF THE SEN ALLOWANCE |
| |
The proposals seek to replace the allowance and
replace it with one increment. This will not reflect the specialist
skills and responsibilities that staff currently practice and could
lead to a two-tier workforce. |
In order to continue negotiations we urgently require your views or concerns,
either by arranging a visit to your school or email us.
